Studio Update – Cave Echoes of the Info Eaters

I’m still on track for the 03/25/24 completion target. What a trip this has been! The unique challenge I set for this project was to create a concept album with a connected story that ran through all the songs. The storyline that I ended up with is subtle and told in metaphor (a little like a fable!) It is about a man who decides that he needs to do something about all the corrupting misinformation in the world. He sets out on a journey, seeking anyone who might have figured out a solution to the growing problem.

Here are the song titles (in album order):

New Album: Outside the Inside Out released to the publisher!

Today is day 300 of my 300-day challenge. The album is complete. The files have been sent to Catapult for publishing. The album versions of these songs have gone through an additional round of production, which has really upgraded the quality of the recordings compared to their Single versions. Buy the entire album! It contains additional audio content, and lots of little cookies hidden within. A lyric book comes with the album at Apple Music. It will start appearing in all major music services in 2-5 days. Outside the Inside Out

This in-progress album was born out of a challenge I set for myself back in December 2021. I had been frustrated that Marbles Considered Lost took over three years to complete. I wanted a more effective approach. So, I created a system that allowed me to chart out the entire process of building an album along a timeline. It budgeted only 300 days for the entire project! Scheduled to be published on Halloween 2022. I dove right in — each week with a very specific goal. And the system is working! Currently, I am approaching day 200. All 12 songs have been written — 9 of 12 have been recorded — 3 of 12 are final with the Single version published. It has been an amazing experiment.

MCL Album Cover

Here’s the album cover for Marbles Considered Lost. The digital booklet is nearing completion and will be ready when I’m finished with the audio. The album itself is making great progress. I’ve re-mixed eight of eleven songs from their singles version found on this website. It’s sounding fantastic!

Studio Update – Marbles Considered Lost

The next chapter begins.

After a short period of downtime, I’ve been busy developing my next project. It is tentatively called, “Marbles Considered Lost“. A sarcastic jab at how crazy it is for me to be recording music that no one hears. I am currently wrapping up the guitars on the first song, “Cabin in the Woods”. It is a lighthearted daydream about visiting an abandoned cabin that I used to play in as a kid. The song is around 70% complete. I’ve also been assembling an instrumental called, “Boris Would Understand”, and re-building the sequencing for “Magnitude”, an old song from Gyroscope. A lot of things in motion.

I’ve also re-connected with my very best friend, and long-time writing partner, Don. I’m looking forward to his input and collaboration. This is going to be fun!

Studio Update – The Reluctant Cannonball

The album has entered the last stage before publishing – The Hibernation.  I’m going to let it ‘sit on the shelf’ for a week to help reset my objectivity.  After that, if everything still sounds great, I’ll call the album complete and final.  It has been a soul-crushing couple of months; an exercise in humility, being so critical of my own work.  I’ve torn down and remixed every song and assembled them into an amazing album.  It sounds like nothing else.  Jason.

Studio Update – The Reluctant Cannonball

I’ve been out of communication for quite a while now, tied up by…Life…and Death.  And still, despite all the challenges, progress and success with the album.  My 4 year saga.  So, to the update: Phobiac is done (more info soon), One By One is entering the final mastering sessions, and The Cannonball is fully recorded and in the early mixing stage.  The album is assembled; complete with my usual ‘continuous play’ additions between the songs.  The iTunes digital booklet is done.  Lots of website updates ahead.  Here is the final song order:
