Studio Update – Puzzled By Tricks and Lies

I’m well into this song.  What began as an attempt to create a quiet song has twisted into having more of a jazz club sound.  The chorus asks; “If I swapped a copy of you, 1-for-1 with everyone in the world,  would it be a better place?  Or would it all crumble and decay?”  The bass guitar is a fantastic digital emulator (Halion Sonic SE) of an upright.  I’m in love.  This last weekend I recorded a final version of the lead guitar (Yang).  I’m super excited by the song’s smooth groove.  Great atmosphere.  I need to fill in the background vocals in the chorus, but have very little else to record.  I’m hoping to get into post-production soon.  Side note: I’ve taken a few steps towards re-recording the song Phobiac (from the album, “Gyroscope“).  I had planned to work on Signing The Scripture, but am too intimidated by the scope of work it would take.

Studio Update – Ashley Payne

I’ve been hard at work on this new song.  The idea started as a whimsical challenge: I wanted to arrange as song in such a way that it would fit with hit songs of the late 60s-early 70s.  (like Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit).  I was primarily interested in the instrumentation and recording techniques.  The basic architecture of the song has been worked out.  I’m currently practicing the guitars and vocals.  Both Yang and The Purple Master have prominent roles.  There’s some sitar written in to give it that psychadelic touch.  I’m having a good time pulling it together…probably spending too much time in the studio!

Studio Update – Behind Blast Defenses

This song is progressing nicely.  The arrangement is settling down at around 5:05 min long.  I’m trying to create a ‘split’ song feel that flips between a dark brooding groove and a bright poppy chorus.  It’ s looking like it will be guitar heavy; two layered rhythm guitars and probably a harder solo part.  No live bass this time.  I am currently spending most of my time rehearsing vocals and guitar.  Yang has been sounding awesome.  I’m excited to get some more vocals recorded soon.  I’ve only ever recorded a test version of the first verse and chorus.

Please spread the word and buy The Jason Fables music.  Music for the interested.

The guitar came together nicely last week.  Go Yang!  It came out with a good character and tight on the delicate rhythm.  Focus has now shifted over to the vocals.  I’m decided on the arrangement; a primary lead vox, a second lead vox to sit in the background, and two harmony parts.  Typical J.Fables 3-part harmonies through the chorus.  I’d be surprised if I get any of the final vocal recordings this weekend, it will likely be spent practicing.

The bass guitar was finalized early last week.  Since then I’ve returned to the original guitar part; a tight and quick rhythm part with a bouncing delay.  I’m using Yang, as I do for almost all rhythm based guitar parts.  I polished up and restrung it recently, so it is feeling great to play.  This part is going to take a ton of rehearsal.  I’ve been at it all week and am hopeful that I can finalize this weekend.  Once that is done, it will only be the vocal parts to record before starting into the final stages of production.  I’m thinking that I better get something going for this song’s video soon.

Progress on the percussion continues in fits and spurts.  I finally went back and began to flesh out the rhythm guitar part.  I’m using Yang at the moment;  my Fender Stratocaster from the late 80’s.  I’ve already found a few killer vocal harmonies, but haven’t recorded anything yet.  I’m spending a little time today working on a “reboot” of a song called Signing Your Scripture from the album Gyroscope.  I need to get back into the habit of working on more than one project at a time.  I get much more accomplished.  I’m going hiking into the mountains today.  I’m hoping to get some good footage for this song’s video.  Enjoy. Peace. Jason.
